The K-9 division of the police force was founded in 1990 and provides a visible support to the officers as they perform their duties. The dogs are an integral component of crime prevention and detection and provide a presence that defuses many potentially dangerous situations.
- The specially trained dogs are considered to be an actual officer and they have their own badges.
- The dogs live with their human partners.
- Always popular with the public, the K9 Unit is funded through the Lancaster Police Foundation and through citizen donations. If you care to make a contribution, contact Lt. Frey in Patrol Services, phone (717) 735-3318.
