Shop With a Cop 2013

11 December 2013 by Sgt. Ray Corll

The Lancaster City Bureau of Police would like to announce that on Saturday December 14th, officers from Lancaster City as well as Manheim Boro, Northern Lancaster County Regional, West Earl, New Holland, East Lampeter, Manheim Township, Manor Township, West Hempfield and the Pennsylvania State Police will be participating in “Shop with a Cop.” Hosted by Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in downtown Lancaster City, “Shop with a Cop” is an opportunity for police officers to go Christmas shopping with children who have been impacted by the criminal justice system.

This is the fourth year for this event.  The children are referred for participation by the Crispus Attucks Center and the Mix at Arbor Place.  Financial gifts forwarded to, and provided by, Trinity Lutheran (31 S. Duke Street Lancaster, PA 17602 (717) 397-2734) are used to purchase gift cards for the children. The children then work with their shopping “cops” to purchase presents as they wish.

Shultz Transportation provides three school busses, and drivers donate their time, to transport the 63 children and their 25 shopping cops from Trinity Lutheran to the Walmart on Lincoln Highway in East Lampeter Township.  After shopping the participants return to the church where the children and their “cops” are provided with lunch, with bread products provided by Pepperidge Farm, while volunteers wrap the children’s gifts.

 Merry Christmas
