3.24.15 More Gun Arrests

On Monday, March 23, 2015 at 1:24 a.m. Lancaster City Police Officers Joel Thomas and Christopher Kophamel attempted to stop a 1999 silver BMW in the 200 blk. of S. Queen St. The vehicle pulled into a parking space and the two occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Both subjects were caught in the 1st blk. of W. Farnum St. after a short foot pursuit. Both subjects are 17-year-old male city residents. Two handguns were visible inside the vehicle, a Bersa .380 semi-auto and a Ruger .22 semi-auto. Further investigation determined that the BMW had been stolen from the 700 blk. of Stevens Ave. earlier in the evening.

As a result of this investigation JUVENILE #1 was charged with Person not to Possess Firearms (Juvenile  #1 had two prior felony adjudications for Burglary and Possession of Firearm by a Minor), Possession of a Firearm by a Minor, Firearms not to be Carried without a License, Possession of a Small Amount of Marijuana, Receiving Stolen Property, Loitering and Prowling at Night, Criminal Trespass, and Curfew.

JUVENILE #2 was charged with Person not to Possess Firearms (Juvenile #2 had one prior felony adjudication for Possession of Firearm by a Minor), Possession of a Firearm by a Minor, Firearms not to be Carried without a License, Possession of a Small Amount of Marijuana, Receiving Stolen Property, and Curfew (S)

Both Juveniles were on Probation for their prior felony adjudications.

These arrests are the 18th and 19th arrests for firearms related charges brought by the Lancaster City Police in 2015. The Lancaster City Police will continue to proactively pursue and prosecute persons illegally possessing firearms. Our officers are currently patrolling the city, searching for arrest #20. We will not tolerate gun violence and are continuing our investigations into several recent shots fired incidents.  

The AVERAGE AGE of the 19 defendants charged so far this year is 21 years old. Nine of these subjects are under the age of 20. As of this date, 11 of these individuals are incarcerated at either the Lancaster County Prison or the Lancaster County Youth Intervention Center.
