7.11.13 Attempted Homicide Arrest

11 July 2013 by Det. Lt. Michael Winters

On July 10, 2013, at approx. 6:43 PM, officers from the Lancaster City Bureau of Police were dispatched the area of Howard Ave and Christian Street for a reported stabbing.   The first responding officers were then advised by dispatchers that a stabbing victim had just walked into the emergency room at Lancaster General Hospital.   The officers were able to determine that the incident occurred at 529 Howard Ave and that the victim was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.   The victim was identified as a 23 year old Lancaster City female.   The victim was taken to surgery and treated for multiple stab wounds to the chest, torso and arm, however her injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The patrol officers secured the scene, while investigators began interviewing witnesses.  Investigators quickly learned that the suspect was the victim’s boyfriend and that he had fled the scene on foot prior to the arrival of the first officers.    While investigators and officers were attempting to locate the suspect, the suspect approached an officer who was on another, unrelated call in the first block of S. Ann Street.  The suspect identified himself and told the officer that the police were looking for him.   After the suspect was identified, he was arrested and taken to the Lancaster City Police station.   The suspect was identified as:

 Jose Alberto ESTEVEZ

36-year-old male

Resident of the 400 block of Howard Ave

As a result of this investigation, Detective Lieutenant Michael Winters charged Jose Alberto ESTEVEZ with one count of Criminal Attempt at Criminal Homicide (F-1), before Magisterial District Judge Kelly Ballentine.    At the time of this release, ESTEVEZ is currently being held for arraignment.
