On 4 March, 2016 (Fri.) Ofc. Andrew Mease and Sgt. Damon Greathouse conducted a vehicle stop in the 400 blk S. Duke St. for a stop sign violation. The passenger of the vehicle, later identified as Robert Lee Burks, 21-year-old male, fled from Ofc. Mease who engaged in a foot chase with the suspect. During the chase Burks discarded a 9mm Taurus semi-automatic handgun. With the assistance of other patrol officers, and camera surveillance by the Lancaster Safety Coalition, the suspect was located hiding under a vehicle on Atlantic Ave. just north of Chester St. Burks was found in possession of cocaine and marijuana. An investigation into the firearm revealed that the gun had been stolen during a prior theft from vehicle report. Burks was charged with Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Possession With Intent to Deliver Cocaine, Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of a Small Amount of Marijuana. Burks is a resident of the 600 blk. S. Christian St., Lancaster, PA. Burks is the 9th person arrested for a firearms-related crime by the Lancaster City Police in 2016. 

The driver of the vehicle, who had walked away from the stop during the chase, was later located and identified. He is a 24-year-old male from Columbia PA who will be charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving During Suspension, and a Stop Sign violation. 

All persons accused of a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
